My Commission Process
- We’ll chat about what you have in mind. I’ll take notes.
- If I think I can make what you’re looking for, I’ll work up a price and a short contract so we can get started. We’ll meet again to sign off and shake hands.
- Usually, I work with 50% payment up front, 50% when we are both satisfied the work is completed.
- You’re welcome to set up a time to come to my studio and see the work in progress. Please realize I work in my own unique style, and what I will produce will be in that style.
- When I think the piece is finished, I’ll set up an appointment with you for an approval viewing. This can be at my studio or your home; it’s up to you. It’s an exciting moment for both of us, and this step has been a happy one in all my past commission experiences. I’ve seen some tears (in a good way!).
I’ve created commissions for special birthdays, anniversaries and to commemorate travel. It’s rewarding for me when these paintings become lifelong treasures for my collectors, and I hope it’s a fun experience for you, too. You have the option for me to include papers and other items that are special to you in the piece. I don’t use photographs, unfortunately, but my clients have asked for some pretty varied collage elements, including sheep’s wool from New Zealand, pieces of a leather travel bag and even ash from Mt. St. Helens. I’ll provide details on how this works.
My commission pricing is a little higher than my regular pricing, because it takes extra time to create something that's not entirely self-directed. Before we begin, I'll give you a thorough price quote that will include:
- All materials (custom canvas sizes are not a problem)
- A progress visit to my studio (If you so desire)
- A reasonable number of tweaks and adjustments if need be
- A final approval meeting and a finished painting I can install in your home
